Eastbourne Clinic of Natural Medicine Chropody & Podiatry
CHIROPODY AND PODIATRY

Chiropody is the provision of comprehensive care for conditions affecting the foot and lower limb. This includes pain relief of conditions caused by deformities and dysfunctions, curative foot care using therapeutic techniques including minor surgery, and the prescription and provision of appliances and orthotics.

What’s the difference between a Podiatrist and a Chiropodist?

There’s no difference between a podiatrist and chiropodist, however podiatrist is the more modern term.

How can a Podiatrist help?

Podiatrists may give you advice on how to look after your feet and what type of shoes to wear. They may also help treat and alleviate day-to-day foot problems such as:

  • Ankle Strain or Sprain

  • Bunions

  • Callous

  • Corns

  • Diabetes

  • Eczema

  • Functional Issues

  • Forefoot Pain

  • Hard Skin

  • Heel pain

  • Ingrown Toenail

  • Metatarsalgia

  • Morton's Neuroma

  • Nail Issues

  • Plantar Fasciitis

  • Policeman's Heel (heel pain)

  • Psoriasis

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis

  • Sports Related Injuries

  • Sprains

  • Toe Deformities

  • Trauma

  • Verrucae

Even though your feet may be in generally good condition, you might consider having an annual single session with your Podiatrist to check that you are looking after your feet properly.

What happens at the consultation?

At your first consultation, the Podiatrist will take a full medical history and will assess your feet (ie the shape of your foot, skin condition and texture, skin colour, temperature). Advice on footwear may be discussed.

The Podiatrist will discuss your concerns with you and any concerns which may arise during the consultation; the Podiatrist may then make a diagnosis and treatment plan.

Usually any minor problems that are picked up can be treated on the spot including the removal of hard skin, corns and calluses.

The initial session is usually completely painless (even pleasant) and takes 45 minutes. Any further follow-up sessions, thereafter, will usually take approximately 30 minutes.
