Kirsten graduated as a Licentiate of Acupuncture in 1994 at the International College of Oriental Medicine, UK and was fortunate enough to study with the founder of the college, the late Dr van Buren directly, as well as many other pioneering and gifted acupuncture teachers. She has been a practicing member of the British Acupuncture Council ever since and is a member of the teaching faculty of the International College of Oriental Medicine.

Kirsten also learnt the techniques of Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture in 2003 in Hongkong.

 

Since 2006 she has participated in an Acupuncture Training Program as part of the MettaDana Project in northern Myanmar (Burma), enabling local traditional doctors to incorporate acupuncture as an effective part in the treatment of their many patients. See the video here.

 

Since 2012, Kirsten has been part of a group of volunteers offering acupuncture for the Macmillan Trust at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead.

 

Also in 2012, she attended an in-depth advanced postgraduate course with Peter van Kervel (international teacher and author of many books, specialising in connecting Classical Chinese Medicine to cutting edge Western Research and understanding. This has enabled her to greatly enhance the effectiveness of her acupuncture practice.

WORKING WITH KIRSTEN
 

During the first one hour appointment, you will be asked comprehensive questions regarding your condition and medical history to establish a full picture. Kirsten will use the Classical Chinese methods of diagnosis of Pulse and Tongue. These diagnostic tools enable us to detect weaknesses in the system even before they become a physical problem and we are thus often able to prevent conditions from occurring or worsening.

 

Once a treatment plan is reached, a minimum number of very fine needles are inserted into specific acupuncture points whilst you are comfortably resting on a treatment couch. This is mostly pain-free and followed by 20 minutes of relaxation whilst the needles are left in place to work. 

 

After treatment, you may feel more pleasantly tired than usual as the impulses are still working on inside your system. It is advisable not to engage in any very strenuous activities on the day of treatment. 

 

Kirsten always follows an individual approach, treating each person according to their strengths and weaknesses in re-establishing balance within the body and mind. The number of treatments required depends upon the condition and will be discussed during your first appointment or initial consultation.

 

Kirsten has many years of experience in working with patients with a broad range of conditions. Some of her patients visit her regularly to maintain good health as a preventative measure.
